January 2006

Fort Gordon Service Club
January 2006

My wish for all of you this season is to enjoy time with your families, and to take a much deserved rest. Wish I could fly you each to a undisclosed island somewhere to be waited on hand and foot but that is not within my magical powers or my budget, so take long soaks in the bath and dream.. Thanks for all you do!!
Our goal for the upcoming year is to continue to grow in membership, service to our community, educate, and have fun doing it.
I am sure Gordon Terrace will forever have fond memories of our club after our caroling debut on the 11th.. We had so much fun. I look forward to seeing everone on the 18th to educate ourselves on healthy eating and learning to keep ourselves stress free for the upcoming year. Happy New Year.

Kathi

The FGSC was asked to continue a tradition that the enlisted wives club had been doing for years. We agreed that this tradition should be continued and that we were the ones to do it.. At the October board meeting it was asked by the Fisher House if the FGSC could provide Thanksgiving dinner to the soldiers and their families staying there over the holidays. We happily allocated funds to provide dinner for everyone staying over the holiday. The better half of the story is that after talking with Piccadilly Cafeteria in the mall and setting up a menu and price, they surprised us on Thanksgiving by donating all of the wonderful food they served. It was much appreciated by the families and by us. This is how they decided to support our troops. I encourage you if you are shopping in the mall and get the hunger bite, you take yourself down to Piccadilly and enjoy your meal in an atmosphere that wholeheartedly supports our men and women serving in the armed forces and at the same time support piccadilly . Say a personal thanks to Paul the manager. Thank you Piccadilly

New Year's Prayer
Dear Lord, please give me A few friends who understand me and remain my friends; A work to do which has real value, without which the world would be the poorer; A mind unafraid to travel, even though the trail be not blazed; An understanding heart; A sense of humor; Time for quiet, silent meditation; A feeling of the presence of God; The patience to wait for the coming of these things, With the wisdom to recognize them when they come. Amen. - Unknown writer

Holiday Caroling FGSC Style!!

December News

Fort Gordon Service Club
Newsletter
December 2005

want to wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving. I love this time of year with the smells of cooking, leaves crunching under your feet, the need of a jacket (I know dreaming about the coolness and leaves thing).
A tradition our family has is to tell everyone what we are thankful for around the Thanksgiving table. So, sitting around the table with you I would like to say a special thank you to each of you. Your selfless service to our community amazes me. Our board members who go out of their way to do their job with grace and continue to always get the job done. I know your time is valuable and I appreciate your giving that time to our club and community. Our Thrift Shop volunteers who strive everyday to help our soldiers and families with a caring attitude. Your work enables us to give back resources to our community that are much needed. Our Flea Market crew, who met on the field in the dark and continued their hard work throughout the day. The planning, and execution of such a large event takes time away from your families and I appreciate that time. I appreciate the family members who also come out and give of themselves whenever they are needed. Our loyal members who continue to come out and have great fun and support the community, I say thank you. I am honored to be able to work beside you.
I am most thankful for the priveledges and freedoms we have everyday thanks to our men and women who are serving our country. Our thoughts and prayers are with all soldiers where ever they may be, serving selflessly. With the families of those deployed, know that we are one family and we thank you for your contribution.
My cup runneth over,
Kathi

Dear FGSC Members:
Since arriving this past summer, I had a delightful tour of the Thrift Shop, attended their quarterly meeting, and reviewed Judy and Yvette’s proposal on the recent re-structuring of the consignment agreement. My first impression was most favorable, followed by very professional meetings. In addition, the income that is transferred from the Thrift Shop to the FGSC reflects the hard work and dedication of the volunteers and staff.
During this season of “Thanksgiving,” be sure to thank our exceptional Thrift Shop team that work tirelessly. The work is hard and at times the work is dirty; however, they do it all with a smile and a servant’s heart.
In addition, I want to extend a sincere thank you for an exceptionally easy transition into the Fort Gordon community. Being here is a great blessing for the Bouchard family.
Ron joins me in wishing you and your family a bountiful harvest filled with precious time together, countless friends, and good health as we enter this Holiday Season.
Sincerely,
Marcia Bouchard

Thrift shop advisor

Thinking Cookies?

Think Ways and Means! Do you like cookies as much as we do? Have you started looking through cookbooks and magazines for a great recipe to bring to the December Cookie Exchange? Just remember, when it comes to baking, presentation is everything. Okay, that's not true. TASTE is everything! BUT, having those scrumptious cookies presented in an attractive tin or on a beautiful plate is a fitting tribute to all of your hard work. That is where we can help. We'll have lots of holiday tins, platters, and plates at great prices. In addition, we'll have ornaments, holiday collectibles and festive raffle baskets. So bring your cookies, your singing voice, your good cheer, and your shopping attitude to the Ways and Means table at the December function. We'll be waiting for you!
